Jalandhar, March 29

After a gap of 10 long years, the PAP flyover was finally opened today. The commuters shared their happiness and said it was only due to the elections that the construction work of the project has been expedited.

It is worth mentioning that the flyover missed several deadlines in the past 10 years, which only added to the woes of the commuters.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) added that the construction of flyover at Rama Mandi Chowk along with entire structure work would be completed by June, this year.

It was being said for long that once the PAP flyover gets functional, jams at PAP Chowk would be a thing of the past as around 70-80 per cent of traffic would use the flyover to reach Amritsar and Jammu.

It is pertinent to mention that work on PAP -Rama Mandi flyover had been hanging in fire for the past 10 years. The project would give major respite to commuters travelling from Delhi to Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Jammu via Jalandhar.

The construction work on the six-laning of the Jalandhar-Panipat highway began in May 2009, which was scheduled to be completed in 30 months.

One of the commuters said he was happy that the flyover was finally opened.

“Only the elections have paved the way for the long-pending construction of the flyover,” he said adding that he didn’t understand what took so long for the government to complete the stretch.

Flyover to ease traffic bottleneck

Once the PAP flyover gets functional, jams at PAP Chowk would be a thing of the past as around 70-80 per cent of traffic would use the flyover to reach Amritsar and Jammu. The project would give major respite to commuters travelling from Delhi to Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Jammu via Jalandhar.
