Firing at cloth merchant’s shop near Kapurthala; police probe on

Panic gripped the main market of Kalasanghian near Kapurthala late Saturday night after two unidentified youths allegedly opened fire at the shop and residence of a cloth merchant, Kuldeep Kumar Loomba. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras. No one was injured in the firing.

Two youths arrived outside Kuldeep Kumar Loomba’s cloth shop on a motorcycle and allegedly fired several rounds towards the shop and the residential portion above it. CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused firing four rounds.

Hearing the sound of gunshots, night guards deployed in the main market alerted the Loomba family.

A team from the Kalasanghian police post and Sadar police station reached the spot. Station House Officer Major Singh, along with the police team, inspected the scene.

The police recovered spent cartridges from the spot and registered a case against unidentified persons.

One of the bullets reportedly pierced the shop’s shutter and shattered the toughened glass installed in front of it.

DSP Sheetal Singh said a case had been registered against the unidentified accused and an investigation was under way.

ASI Amarjit Singh, in-charge of the Kalasanghian police post, said the police were examining the CCTV footage and gathering other leads to identify the assailants.
