Firing outside IVF centre: 2 senior Jalandhar cops suspended

A day after a firing incident took place outside an IVF centre in Jalandhar, Model Town ACP Parminder Singh Mand and SHO Ravinder Kumar were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.

Senior officials said the action had been taken against them to send a strong message within the ranks that delayed or lax response in such cases would not be tolerated.

The firing incident comes days after the centre’s senior doctors received threat calls. On Saturday night (February 28) at 9.45 pm, a man dressed in a white t-shirt, track pants and a helmet, shot more than six bullets and then fled on a motorbike. CCTV footage clearly captures a man firing shots towards the centre, while standing in a deserted street. On the same day (February 28), gunshots were fired outside a veterinarian’s house at Santokhpura in Jalandhar at 1.40 am.

Jalandhar Range DIG Naveen Singla said, “Two officials have been placed under suspension by the commissionerate. We are proceeding with a multi-fold plan to tackle criminal elements in the area. Under Op eration Prahar 1 and 2, 1,000 individuals have been nabbed in Jalandhar.”
