Food safety team collects samples in Phagwara
A special food safety checking drive was conducted in Phagwara by the Food Safety Wing, Kapurthala, under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal.
During the drive conducted under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr Rajeev Prashar, the team collected a sample of ‘chole-bhature’ from an eatery in Phagwara, along with samples of various food items from food stalls operating near Sikri village.
All the samples were sealed on the spot and sent to the State Food Laboratory for analysis. As part of the campaign, an awareness programme was also organised at the Government School, Sikri. Schoolchildren were advised to minimise the fast-food consumption and completely avoid energy drinks. The team informed them that the sale of energy drinks is banned within a radius of 50 metres of schools and 100 metres of villages.
The checking and awareness drive was led by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner (Food), while Food Safety Officer Mehak Saini was also part of the team.
Officials said further legal action would be initiated as per the law after the laboratory reports of the samples are received.
