Four-tier security, anti-riot teams ready for D-Day

JALANDHAR: Four companies of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), four-tier security, water cannon vehicles and anti-riot teams are set for tomorrow, when the counting of votes will be done and the results will be declared for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Four companies of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), four-tier security, water cannon vehicles and anti-riot teams are set for tomorrow, when the counting of votes will be done and the results will be declared for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Four companies of the ITBP are manning the EVMs in the district. This time, the paramilitary force is in a high number to guard strongrooms. Paramilitary forces in first-tier security are deputed widely and in a broad manner, second tier has also adequate force and in third tier, district police are deputed, where all the anti-riot equipment will be available, including water cannon vehicle.

Besides, four tier will also be there in which DCP-level officers will be deputed only to look after the activities in the city. They will maintain the law and order and during processions, which will be carried out in the city after the announcement of the results; the four-tier security will play an important role.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the whole complex was being guarded by nakas, anti-riot teams and commandos.

Also, the CP said around 1,000 police personnel, along with 17 gazetted officers, will man the complex tomorrow. SP and DSP-level officers were present in the complex and available for 24 hours and they were in communication with each other via wireless gadgets.

Officials said the EVM and VVPAT machines were under CCTV surveillance and a four-tier security was being provided to them by the state police, the Punjab Armed Police and the paramilitary force.

They said to ensure law and order situation outside the counting halls, rapid action force, quick response team, horseback team and others along with the Riot Control Vehicle will be available. Strict vigil was being kept to maintain law and order at every cost.
