Four youths try to run over cops, arrested

Four youths were arrested for allegedly attempting to murder cops on duty here on Friday.

On Thursday at 11.30 pm, the accused, identified as Pankaj, Prabhdeep, Kamaljit and Robin, tried to run over cops at a checkpoint on the Leather Complex road.

Gagandeep Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Basti Bawa Khel police station, was injured in the incident. The SHO said acting on a tip-off, they laid a naka on the Leather Complex road near Kapurthala Chowk.

The SHO added when they tried to stop the suspected vehicle, the driver rammed the car into the cops.

Gagandeep received injuries on his hand and was taken to the Civil Hospital. He said all youths in the age-group of 21 to 25 years fled from the spot.

He said other policemen had managed to impound the Swift car and recovered 12.5-gm heroin.

After the preliminary investigation, the police arrested the accused.

A case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused.
