Gurmeet Singh Garcha of Boothgarh village in Hoshiarpur district won three gold medals and one silver medal in various events in the Asia Masters Athletics Championship held from November 5 to 9 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He won his first gold medal in the 10 km race in the 45 age group, second gold in the 5,000-m race, third gold in the 1,500-m track race and a silver medal in the 3,000-m race.

In the 10-km race for the 45 age group, India was followed by Kazakhstan and Malaysia in the second and third spots, respectively.

In the 5,000-m race, Iran stood second, and Sri Lanka stood third. In the 1,500-m race, Indonesia and Japan emerged as first and second runners-up; while in the 3,000-m race, Iran athlete stood first, Gurmeet second, and Bangladeshi player stood third.
