The Health Department on Tuesday conducted a slew of activities in the district under the Punjab government’s ambitious programme ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ to ensure overall wellness of the people.
A team led by Food Safety Officer, Divya Bhagat, collected eight samples of food items, including six milk samples, one salt and wheat flour sample from various areas including Urban Estate, Cool Road, Model Town Road and Garha.
She said the samples would be sent to state laboratory, Chandigarh, and action would be taken accordingly.
Another team, led by SMO Kala Bakra, Dr Surinder Pal, carried out checking of food items being prepared at sweet shops at Bhogpur town of the district.
They directed the sweet shop owners to maintain hygiene at their shops so that people could get quality food.
In order to check the spread of vector-borne diseases, the Health Department also released ‘Gambusia fish’ at various ponds. Gambusia fish eats the mosquito larvae and help in controlling the diseases like malaria and dengue.
