Heroin, intoxicant tablets seized, multiple NDPS cases registered in Nawanshahr
The police suspect larger drug nexus, investigate it
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) Police have registered multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the district and adjoining areas.
The police have arrested several accused and seized heroin and intoxicant tablets from them.
SSP Tushar Gupta said a police team was on patrol duty on the outskirts of Kajla when they intercepted a man, who allegedly threw a packet into the roadside bushes and tried to flee. He was arrested after a brief chase.
Upon questioning, the accused identified himself as Karan Ram alias Alla, a resident of Salh Khurd village.
The police seized 15 grams of heroin along with five strips of intoxicant tablets from him.
A case was registered under the NDPS Act.
In another case, ASI Inderpal Singh of Banga police station said when he was patrolling with his team on the Banga-Mahilpur road, they spotted two youths walking out of a cremation ground.
Upon noticing the police team, the two threw a packet on the ground and tried to flee. The police arrested them.
They were identified as Baljeet Kumar alias Sabi and Prince Kumar, residents of Katt. The police seized 35 intoxicant tablets from them.
A case was registered under Sections 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Separately, in Rahon, police arrested Sukhmander Singh alias Mikki, a resident of Sangatpur, after allegedly seizing 30 intoxicant tablets.
A case was registered under the NDPS Act as the accused failed to produce a medical prescription for possessing the tablets.
