Hockey meet: Indian Oil come from behind, outplay Navy Mumbai 3-2

JALANDHAR: With the help of attacking hockey in the last quarter of the match, Indian Oil bounced back and beat Indian Navy Mumbai 3-2 to earn three points in the 36th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Surjit Hockey Stadium on Monday evening.

With the help of attacking hockey in the last quarter of the match, Indian Oil bounced back and beat Indian Navy Mumbai 3-2 to earn three points in the 36th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Surjit Hockey Stadium on Monday evening.

In the second match, Punjab Police and Punjab and Sind Bank Delhi locked 1-1 draw and split one point each. In Pool A match, Indian Navy played a good and fast hockey in first three quarters of the match. Indian Navy took lead in the 24th minute of the play, when Nitesh netted the ball from right flank, taking the team to 1-0 lead. After lemon break in the 37th minute, Indian Navy struck once again, this time Pawan Rajbhar scored the field goal with reverse flick from left flank. Bouncing back, Gurjinder Singh converted penalty corner for Indian Oil in 50th minute. Two minutes later, Indian Oil’s Talwinder Singh netted the ball from the pass of Karajwinder Singh, making it 2-2. In the last minute of the match, Gurjinder Singh scored the winning goal for the Indian Oil.

In the second match of Pool B, Punjab Police Jalandhar and Punjab & Sind bank Delhi played calculated hockey. In the first half of the match, both teams were goalless. In the 37th minute of the play, Gaganpreet Kaur of Punjab & Sind Bank converted a penalty corner into a goal. In the 52nd minute, equaliser came for Punjab Police from the stick of olympian Gurvinder Singh.
