Preparations are in full swing at Shri Siddheshwar Shiv Temple, Bassi Ghulam Hussain, where an elaborate 1,101-Kundiya Rudra Mahayagya is scheduled to be held from February 19 to 25, 2026.
A vast bamboo structure — spread across several acres — is being constructed to accommodate the sacred fire altars, priests, volunteers, and devotees expected to participate from across the region and beyond. The serene temple complex has transformed into a bustling centre of activity as priests, volunteers and workers construct a vast bamboo structure that will house 1,101 yagya kunds, along with seating arrangements for thousands of devotees.
The yajna’s convener and the spiritual head of Shri Siddheshwar Shiv Temple, Udaygiri of Juna Akhara, said that yajna had been central to the ethos of Sanatana Dharma since ancient times.
“From the Vedic era, our sages taught us that yajna purifies not only the environment but also our thoughts and intentions. This mahayagya is being organised for the welfare of the entire world, beyond caste, creed or religion,” he said.
He added that the present times demanded spiritual strength along with material progress.
“Today, the world is facing unrest, tension and natural calamities. Through collective chanting and sacred fire offerings, we pray that peace, harmony and compassion prevail everywhere,” Udaygiri said, urging families to take part with devotion.
Local devotees are also playing an active role. Convenor of Sarva Dharma Sadbhavna Samiti Anurag Sood shared that Basantgiri performed intense penance at the Siddheshwar temple for 43 years, and before him seven ‘enlightened’ saints also meditated there, whose samadhis still stand, giving the temple great spiritual significance.
Dr Harshvinder Singh Pathania informed that those wishing to participate or register as yajmans may do so at the temple itself. There is no fee for participation, though voluntary offerings are welcome.
As preparations intensify, the upcoming Ekadash Sahastra Yajna is expected to be one of the largest religious gatherings in the region in recent years. Concluding his appeal, Udaygiri said,
“This mahayagya is not only a ritual, it is a collective prayer for peace, health and spiritual upliftment. We invite every devotee to join hands so that the blessings of this yajna reach every household and the entire world benefits,” he said.
