Vehicle thieves arrested
Phagwara: In a significant achievement, the police have arrested two vehicle thieves and recovered two stolen cars from their possession on Thursday night. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the arrested thieves were identified as Mani Kumar, a resident of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Phagwara, and Gurbhej Singh, a resident of Chheherta, Amritsar district. The SP said on receiving a tip-off, the police laid a naka near Basra Palace on the Phagwara-Banga road and arrested the accused, who were in two different cars. The police impounded the stolen cars, including a Cruise bearing the fake registration number HR-26BL-2600 and a Fortuner car without a registration number.

Girl abducted on marriage pretext
Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Lalit Kumar, a resident of Bedian Mohalla, the police have registered a case against a youth, identified as Gokul, a resident of Taki Mohalla, on the charge of abducting a minor girl of the complainant. The victim told the police that his minor daughter, who was Class XI student, went to school on January 27 but did not return home. He expressed doubts that the said youth had abducted his minor daughter on the pretext of marrying her. No arrest has been made so far. The police are investigating the matter.

Youth arrested for theft
Phagwara: The police arrested a youth on the charge of theft at a hardware shop of Kamalpreet Singh at Chack-Hakim village on Thursday night. The arrested accused was identified as Sarabjit, a resident of Babrrke village in Jalandhar district.
