Inquilab Mela: Anti-drug marathon, cultural event mark Bhagat Singh’s birth anniv at Nawanshahr
Famous Punjabi artistes Jasbir Jassi, Rani Randeep and Karamjit Anmol regaled audiences on the final day of the two-day Inquilab Mela at Khatkar Kalan, which marked the 117th birth anniversary of Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh.
Spectators arrived in large numbers to witness the event which featured songs related to patriotism, as well as culture and heritage. Besides Ashok Kalyan Theatre, Sukh DJ Patiala, Friends Theater Group Jalandhar, the programme also featured performances from students of SN College, Banga, SDS Collge, Jadla, and SN College, Banga.
Meanwhile, a marathon was organised from the ITI Ground at Nawanshahr this morning as part of the two-day Inquilab Mela.
Conducted by the district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman, the marathon passed through Chandigarh Chowk and concluded at RK Arya College, Nawanshahr.
SSP Dr Mehtab Singh, Nawanshahr constituency in-charge Lalit Mohan Pathak, District Revenue Officer Mandeep Singh Maan, District Sports Officer Vandana Chauhan, and many other officials, volunteers, students and common people participated in the marathon.
“We are breathing freely due to the sacrifices of freedom fighters and martyrs like Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh. To realise Bhagat Singh’s dream and guard his thinking, we should remain committed towards creating a drugs-free society,” said the DC.
The SSP said such efforts would be effective in motivating youth towards sports and other constructive activities by keeping them away from drugs.
