Int’l conference on mathematics, science kicks off

MAHILPUR: A two-day international conference on the ongoing research in mathematics, science and computers commenced at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur.

A two-day international conference on the ongoing research in mathematics, science and computers commenced at Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur.

Organised jointly by the Post Graduate Departments of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, under the leadership of Principal Dr Parvinder Singh, the first session of the conference was presided over by Prof K Chan from Liverpool University, UK.

President of Sikh Educational Council, Sant Sadhu Singh Kaharpur, General Secretary Prof Apinder Singh and Dr Rohit Mehra, were the special guests on the occasion.

In the inaugural speech, Dr Rohit Mehra, Registrar, National Institute of Technology, said getting an international-level conference by such an institution in rural area was a unique achievement.

Prof K Chan of Liverpool University, UK, delivered a keynote address and explained the current research and its possibilities in mathematics at the international level.

He said at present, researchers and students should adopt an inter-disciplinary approach on world class research. Shinji Tokonami delivered the keynote lecture in the second session. He talked about the impact of nuclear science on the human life, and shared information about research on the subject in various countries.

Prof Apinder Singh, council secretary, said the conference would serve as a light repository for researchers and students. Principal Parvinder Singh motivated students to get the maximum benefit from the conference.

Prof Emeritus, Dr KK Bhasin, threw light on new research in the field of chemistry. Researchers from various universities, Anthony Prabhakar, Anchal Chahalen, Dr Sangeeta Kapoor, Prof Rudra Rameshwar, Dr Raj Mittal Singla, Dr Sudhir Mittal, Dr Gurmat Singh, Dr Rupinder Pal Kaur, Prof Niru Mangue, Prof Monica Bhagat, Dr Prabhdeep Kaur, Dr Sumir Sharma, Dr Naveen Gulati, Gunjan Sharma, presented research papers on different aspects of mathematics, science and computer science.
