The 72nd Inter-services hockey championship will commence at the Vajra AstroTurf Hockey stadium at the Army Hockey Node (AHN) in Jalandhar from March 9 to March 13.
The prestigious tournament organised under the aegis of the Army Sports Control Board will bring together some of the finest hockey players from the armed forces.
The tournament being one of the premier sporting events of the armed services will witness fierce competitions among four teams including Army Red, Army Green, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
The opening ceremony will be inaugurated by Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Vajra Corps in the presence of senior military officers, troops, veteran hockey players and officials from the Punjab government as well as members of the Indian hockey fraternity.
The championship aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork and sporting excellence while also strengthening inter service spirit through healthy competition.
The Army Hockey Node in Jalandhar, often regarded as the birthplace of Indian hockey which plays a critical role in nurturing elite hockey talent within the Services through a well institutionalised training system along with regular competitive exposure.
The championship will conclude with the final match and closing ceremony on March 13. The tournament serves as an important platform for identifying and nurturing talented players who later go on to represent the Services at national and international levels.
