Having qualified the UPSC exams with 353rd rank in April last year and made it to the IAS, Jalandhar youth Gurkanwal Singh (27) has got the Punjab cadre.

He is the only one from the four who qualified from Punjab to have got the cadre in his home state. Mudita Bansal has got West Bengal, Aastha Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories cadre and Kartikey Kumar has got the Assam cadre. The three other UPSC candidates from the 2025 batch who have got Punjab cadre are Adiba Anam Ashfaque Ahenad from Maharashtra, Himanshu from Uttarakhand and Subrat Singh Balot from Delhi.

Gurkanwal is still in Mussourie where he had been taking training. He had done schooling from MGN Public School and civil engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. He had got selected as the Assistant Commandant in the BSF when he cleared the UPSC too. Gurkanwal's father Satpal Singh Multani is a retired Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner based at Urban Estate, Phase-2, here.
