Jalandhar rural police crack highway robbery case in 24 hrs, two arrested
The Kartarpur police station falling under the Jalandhar (Rural) area has solved a robbery case within 24 hours by recovering Rs 2 lakh in cash and impounding vehicle used in the crime.
The arrested accused have been identified as Karanjit Singh, a resident of Chhabalwadi falling under the Khilachia police station in Amritsar district, and Satnam Singh, a resident of Bachde village in Tarn Taran district.
Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jalandhar (Rural), said following report robbery, special team was immediately constituted to track down perpetrators of the crime.
The SSP said a successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Jasroop Kaur Bath, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), and Surinder Pal, DSP, Kartarpur. The investigating team was led by Kartarpur police station SHO, who worked diligently to crack the case.
Revealing case details, the SSP said on January 30, around 5 am, complainant Arman Sood, a resident of Bhikhiwind Road, was standing near Vaishno Dhaba with his brother Rishav Sood. The victim, who was preparing to travel to Australia, was carrying his passport and Rs 3 lakh in cash. Two individuals in an Alto car (bearing registration number PB02-EQ-3186) threatened the victim and fled with his money and passport.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had carefully planned the robbery after identifying their target. They had been monitoring the movement of people carrying substantial amount of cash in the area. The Alto car used in the crime was also recovered, which provided additional leads for investigating similar incidents in the region.
The arrested accused would be produced in a court and their police remand sought for further investigation. The investigating team believes that their interrogation might lead to recovery of the remaining amount and possibly uncover involvement of the accused in other similar crimes.
