Marking the occasion of Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti, the Parshuram Sena, Phagwara, in collaboration with the Brahman Mandal and the District Kapurthala Wrestling Association, organised the second annual wrestling dangal at Talab Aroriyan, Mehli Gate, Phagwara.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of renowned wrestlers of the region, drawing large crowds and keeping spectators engaged throughout. In the highlight matches, wrestler Jassa defeated Ali in the Patka bout, while wrestler William secured victory against Yakub Dhleta, emerging as key winners of the event.
The programme commenced with a ceremonial Jyoti Pujan performed by former councillor Kulwinder Singh Kinda along with Brahman Mandal president Jyoti Sharma and other organisers. The inaugural ceremony was jointly carried out by former international wrestling coach PR Sondhi, SHO Major Singh, and District Wrestling Association president Rimpal Kumar.
Addressing a gathering, speakers extended greetings on the occasions of Baisakhi, Dr Ambedkar Jayanti, Khalsa Sajna Divas and Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti.
They emphasised that wrestling arenas are an integral part of Punjab’s cultural heritage and called for greater efforts to connect the younger generation with traditional sports, expressing hope that talents like Dara Singh would once again emerge from the region to bring laurels at national and international levels.
