Punjabi Virsa Trust (PVT) organised an award ceremony to honour contributions to Punjabi journalism in memory of noted academic Prof Pyara Singh Bhogal.
The event witnessed participation of over 80 scholars, writers and literature enthusiasts. PVT president Prof Jaswant Singh Gandam and principal Gurmit Singh Palahai told that senior journalist Varinder Singh Walia was conferred the Prof Pyara Singh Bhogal Memorial Award, while Dr Amanpreet Singh Brar received the Maan Matta Punjabi Patrakar Award in recognition of their contributions to journalism.
The Bhogal Memorial Award carried a cash prize of Rs 31,000 along with a siropa, citation and memento, whereas the Maan Matta Award included Rs 11,000, a siropa, citation and memento. In a notable gesture, Varinder Singh Walia announced that he would donate the entire prize money to support financially struggling journalists.
The awards were presented during a ceremony presided over by eminent literary and academic personalities, reflecting the Trust’s continued commitment to recognising individuals working for truth, justice and the promotion of Punjabi language and culture.
