Several villages in Kapurthala district suffered extensive damage due to floods that hit Punjab in recent months. Acting on the directions of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PSLSA), SAS Nagar, Mohali, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kapurthala, constituted teams comprising judicial officers, advocates, para-legal volunteers and social workers to conduct a comprehensive survey of the flood-affected areas.
The survey teams carried out door-to-door assessments to evaluate losses caused by floods. A number of affected families, who did not fall under any existing government scheme, were identified, following which a request was made to the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Mohali, for special compensation.
Subsequently, the PSLSA approved a budget of Rs 4.83 lakh, which was allocated to the District Legal Services Authority, Kapurthala, for distribution among identified flood victims. Cheques were given to flood victims belonging to various villages, including Mand Inderpur, Kutbewal, Mand Passan, Mand Khole, Mand Illahabad and Mand Kukan in Sultanpur Lodhi and Bholath tehsils.
