Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Dhir confirmed the seizure, saying the police had received reliable inputs that Manish Kumar, alias Henry, resident of Nigaha Mohalla, Phagwara, was allegedly standing outside his house waiting for customers to sell heroin.
A police party that was present near Subhash Chowk in Phagwara, acted swiftly and reached the location, where the suspect attempted to shut the door on seeing the police team.
The police overpowered the accused and seized a total of six grams of heroin from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the accused.
Confirming the second seizure, the Toora SSP said ASI Parmajit Kumar of the Subhanpur police station stated was on patrol near Bhoot village (Subhanpur), when the police received a tipoff that Paramjit Singh, alias Pammo, was engaged in drug trafficking.
The accused had taken a shop on rent and stored poppy husk inside a vehicle parked there. The shop was found locked. However, on inquiry, the owner, Gurmeet Singh, confirmed renting it out to Paramjit Singh for the past eight to nine months.
With suspicion of a large consignment inside, the shop was opened in the presence of Gurmeet Singh. When the police searched the vehicle parked on the premises, eleven plastic bags containing poppy husk — weighing 2 quintals, 16 kilograms, and 260 grams — were recovered. The contraband and vehicle were taken into custody, while the accused Paramjit Singh is at large.
