Former Member of Parliament Avinash Rai Khanna has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, stating that criminals appear to be operating with impunity under the current dispensation.

Referring to the recent murder of a mechanic in Kandhala Sheikhan village of Hoshiarpur district, Khanna noted that it was the fourth killing reported in the past seven days, reflecting a worrying trend.

Khanna alleged that the prevailing situation under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has emboldened criminal elements across the state. He said the increasing incidents of shootings and murders indicate a complete breakdown of law enforcement, particularly as the government’s tenure nears its end. According to him, criminals seem to view the present regime as providing an environment conducive to unchecked illegal activities.

Expressing deep dissatisfaction with the state administration, Khanna remarked that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, appears indifferent to public safety and has failed to safeguard the interests of the people. He further criticized the police machinery, stating that it has been unable to effectively curb criminal activities or instill a sense of security among citizens.

Emphasising the urgency of the situation, Khanna asserted that restoring peace, public order, and confidence among residents now requires extraordinary measures. He argued that the imposition of President’s Rule has become the need of the hour and suggested that support from central forces, including the Indian Army, may be necessary to decisively crack down on criminal networks and re-establish law and order in Punjab.
