Jalandhar: The 53rd Regional Sports Meet of the Chandigarh region for U-14 and U-17 hockey for boys and girls is underway at the hockey astroturf ground, BSF campus. Hosted by PM Shri KV No. 2, Jalandhar Cantt, the event got off to a start in the presence of chief guest Birender Guria, Assistant Commandant, BSF, and Dr Bihari Jha, a celebrated Hindi writer and Rajbhasha official in BSF. The ceremony began with a warm welcome by the host principal, Ravinder Kumar. The programme unfolded with a ceremonial lamp lighting, flag-hoisting and oath-taking, which electrified the students. The chief guest urged the students to embrace sports with passion. The opening match saw KV No. 4, Jalandhar Cantt, triumph over PM Shri KV No. 2, Jalandhar Cantt. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Kumari Gulshan, TGT English. Neelam Sehgal, sports teacher, ensured seamless execution of the event with her meticulous planning and coordination.

English literary fest

Cambridge International School celebrated a week-long English Literary Fest wherein students participated in various literary activities like Spell Bee, collage-making on poets and authors, designing wall hangings based on idioms and phrases, blackout poetry, story-writing using maximum idioms, dumb charades with idioms and self-composed poetry. A grand finale was organised where students participated in literary quiz, battle of wits, brain storming with audience and elocution. A major attraction was the play which gave the message to build and keep trust and also revealed the importance of education. Chairperson Jasbir Bassi appreciated the initiatives taken by the teachers and performance of the students.

Investiture ceremony held

To instill leadership qualities in students, the Nobel School has formed a new students council for the academic session 2024-25. Jobanpreet Singh Aujla was elected as Head Boy and Sehajpreet Kaur was chosen as Head Girl. Additionally, Sukhman Singh was elected as Vice-Head Boy and Harleen Kaur as Vice-Head Girl. The ceremony commenced with a march past by students from all four Houses: Raman, Tagore, Teresa and Sen. After that, the students sang the school song. Baljot Kaur was selected as the captain of Raman House, Milanpreet Kaur as the captain of Tagore House, Kamaljot Kaur as the captain of Teresa House, and Komalpreet Kaur as the captain of Sen House. The vice-captains for the four Houses sworn in were Sahil, Adit Nagpal, Aditya Singh and Gursewak Singh, respectively. Chairman CL Kochhar, Managing Director Engineer Kumar Shiv Kochhar, officiating principal Ravinder Kaur, and the in-charges of all four Houses were present on the occasion. The newly elected students’ council members were honoured with badges by the chairman of the school. While congratulating the newly formed team of the students’ council, the chairman wished them a bright future and blessed them to fulfill their responsibilities with honesty and dedication.

Day of creativity

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Seconday School transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity, intellect and healthy competition as it hosted a plethora of engaging activities for students from Class 1 to 12. The day-long extravaganza featured an Ad Mad Show, Spellathon, I Love Reading competition, and vegetable printing contest, showcasing the multifaceted talents of its young learners. The Ad Mad show provided a platform for students to unleash their advertising prowess. The Spellathon tested the linguistic acumen of participants. The students showcased their reading comprehension and fluency through storytelling, book reviews and dramatic interpretations. Principal Priyanka Sharma expressed immense pride in the students’ participation and achievements.

English poem recitation competition

Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, organised an Inter-House English Poem Recitation Competition for middles and seniors to acquaint students with the power of masterfully crafted language. Confident orators expressed their ideas on various topics like patriotism, motivation and nature etc. The school principal, teachers and students lauded the efforts shown by the orators. The prize winners among middle section were Hunar Mahna, Aanya Mahajan and Jehanveer Singh. The senior section winners were Arnazz Kaur, Mitesh Dutta, Dhruvika Jain and Nitya Wason

Exploring the world

The tiny tots of Swami Sant Dass Kindergarten expanded their little wings by stepping outside the classroom walls. The students of Nursery had an eye-opening experience walking through the entire premises of their own kindergarten school. The students of LKG went on a guided tour of the senior wing peeping into the classes, library, hall, laboratories and getting an idea of school organisation and administration. The trip was truly a meaningful and memorable experience as an excursion to comprehend the culture of their second home. Dr Sonia Mago encouraged this endeavour for the little ones and emphasised the need for such local trips.

Saplings planted

Amritsar: A tree plantation drive was organised by the Legal Action Aid Welfare Association under the directions of the Ministry of Environment at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road. The chief guests on the occasion were CJM Rachpal Singh and Legal Action Aid national president Sharad Vashishth, besides other dignitaries from the association who also graced the occasion as special guests. Students took part in the drive and planted several saplings. Keeping this motive in mind, a short movie ‘Jal Hai To Kal Hai’ was also featured.
