A Phagwara-based advocate has approached the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Sangrur, alleging that a traffic challan was wrongly issued against his vehicle due to an error in vehicle identification, and has sought its immediate cancellation.
According to a written complaint submitted to the Sangrur RTO, advocate Surinder Kumar Aggarwal, a resident of Friends Colony, Khothran Road, Phagwara, said e-challan number PB236074250223172229 was incorrectly issued against his vehicle PB-36-G-0060. He has contended that the alleged violation actually relates to another vehicle bearing registration number PB-26-G-0060, which does not belong to him.
Aggarwal said the records mention that the violation occurred on February 23, 2025, at 5:22:29 PM on the Balian–Deh Kalan Road in Sangrur district. However, he has asserted that his vehicle was not present at the said location at the time of the offence. Aggarwal has highlighted a major inconsistency in the challan records, stating that the vehicle registered in his name is a Maruti Suzuki Swift VXI, whereas the vehicle shown in the challan image appears to be a Hyundai car, which indicates that the challan might have been issued due to incorrect vehicle identification or a technical error.
The challan issued by the Transport Department Punjab, under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, mentions offences including disobeying police signal/obstructing (Section 179) and driving a four-wheeler without a seat belt (Section 177), with a total payable amount of Rs 1,500. Aggarwal has requested the RTO office to review the challan details, compare the photograph in the records with the registration certificate of his vehicle and cancel the challan after verification.
