A book ‘Suttey Shehar Da Safar’, penned down by Prof Jaswant Singh Gandam, was today released by GNA University President-cum-Pro-Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Sihra during a brief function held on the varsity campus. GNA University, Punjabi Virsa Trust and Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Phagwara had jointly organised the ‘Pustak Lok Arpan’ function.
Speaking on the occasion, author Prof Gandam said the book contained 28 articles on different topics written during the last two years.
Prof Gandam said: “The book has 11 reflective and historical articles, eight satirical, four avian, four translated stories of internationally eminent writers and one on the memory of a departed friend.”
He said literature both mirrored society and showed mirror to it. Gurdeep Singh Sihra lauded the contribution of the author. He said that good books were one’s steadfast friends and emphasised on the need of promoting book culture. Sihra, an educationist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and a bird-lover, had himself penned down a well-researched and illustrated English diary on pea-fowls titled “Azure Hues” and had spent long hours in villages himself clicking photographs of pea-fowls.
In his concluding remarks, noted Punjabi writer and General Secretary of the Punjabi Virsa Trust Gurmit Palahi said: “The book was captivating, well-researched and an original piece of prose laced with poetic style. It makes the reader sit and read it in one go. It will prove to be a memorable milestone in prose form of literature.” Noted Punjabi poets Baldev Raj Komal and Ravinder Chot mesmerised the audience with their poems.
