Livasa Hospital, Hoshiarpur, on Wednesday announced the introduction of Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), an advanced imaging technology designed to enhance the safety, accuracy and success of cardiac procedures. The development marks a significant milestone in improving cardiac care for patients in Hoshiarpur and neighbouring districts.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Ravi Kumar V, Associate Director (Cardiology), said IVUS allows doctors to obtain real-time, 360-degree images from inside the coronary arteries. Unlike conventional angiography, which provides only two-dimensional outlines of blood vessels, IVUS offers detailed information on plaque build-up, artery size, severity of blockages and precise stent placement.
Dr Ravi described IVUS as a “game-changing” technology that eliminates guesswork during cardiac interventions. “With accurate measurements of the arteries, we can select the appropriate stent size and ensure optimal deployment, which significantly reduces complications and improves long-term patient outcomes,” he said. He added that earlier, access to IVUS was largely limited to major metropolitan hospitals, making its availability in Hoshiarpur a major advancement for the region.
Anurag Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of Livasa Hospitals, said the introduction of IVUS would reduce the need for patients from the district to travel long distances for advanced cardiac treatment. He said the technology would help ensure timely, high-quality cardiac care closer to home.
