LPU judoka secures multiple medals in global judo events
What began as a young boy’s passion for judo in Gurdaspur has blossomed into a remarkable journey in Indian university sports. Ritik, a judoka from Lovely Professional University (LPU) pursuing his Master of Physical Education (MPED), has built a reputation defined by persistence, discipline, and excellence across national and international arenas.
Introduced to judo at an early age, Ritik’s rise has been strongly supported by his father, whose unwavering encouragement helped him navigate the challenges of training and competition. This foundation of support has been key to his success.
Ritik has represented LPU in five consecutive All India Inter University Judo Championships, securing a consistent record of victories. His accolades include three golds (Kanpur 2020, 2022; Amritsar 2024), a silver (Phagwara 2023), and a bronze (Amritsar 2025), cementing his status as one of India’s top university judokas.
His path to success wasn’t without setbacks. A serious knee injury disrupted his momentum, leading to a challenging recovery. Yet, with mental fortitude and determination, Ritik returned stronger than ever, proving his resilience and commitment to the sport.
At the senior national level, Ritik’s achievements continued to mount. In 2024, he secured a silver medal at the Senior National Judo Championship in Delhi, followed by a gold in 2025 in Imphal. Additionally, he won silver and gold at the Senior National Ranking Championships in 2024 and 2025, and a silver at the Senior National Games in Uttarakhand in 2024, marking his ascent on the national stage.
Ritik also made his mark internationally, earning a silver at the 2018 Youth Commonwealth Championship in Jaipur. He represented India in prestigious global competitions, including Grand Slam events in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan and the 2024 Asian Open Cup in Hong Kong, gaining invaluable experience.
