LPU set to host five-day Smart India Hackathon 2025

Lovely Professional University (LPU) is hosting the prestigious Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 – Hardware Edition Grand Finale as one of its key nodal centres. Organised by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the five-day finale will be held from 8th to 12th December 2025 across 60 nodal centres nationwide, including LPU.

SIH is a flagship national initiative that provides students an opportunity to tackle real world challenges, fostering innovation and a solution oriented mind-set. This year, 8,000+ student teams, each comprising six students, have been selected for the final stage after a rigorous nationwide screening process.

The 2025 edition features 250+ problem statements sourced from 54 ministries, departments, industries, and PSUs, underscoring the growing scale and significance of the Smart India Hackathon. These problem statements span 17 critical thematic areas, including Healthcare, Supply Chain & Logistics, Smart Technologies, Heritage & Culture, Sustainability, Education & Skill Development, Water, Agriculture & Food, Emerging Technologies, and Disaster Management. The winning team will receive Rs 1 lakh cash prize for their innovative solutions. LPU will host 20 high-potential teams (150 participants) working on problem statements provided by the Government of Punjab and the AICTE–MIC Student Innovation vertical. The university has arranged advanced laboratories, modern hardware infrastructure, experienced mentors, and a vibrant innovation ecosystem to support participants throughout the intensive five day hardware marathon.

Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and founder chancellor of LPU, shared that being selected as nodal centre sixth time in a row demonstrates university’s commitment to nurturing creativity, technological excellence, and entrepreneurial thinking among India’s youth. Beyond the competition, the Grand Finale offers a valuable opportunity for participants to network with peers and mentors while developing prototypes aimed at solving national challenges.

LPU welcomes partnerships with industry, government, and academic institutions to collectively strengthen the nation’s innovation ecosystem and turn visionary ideas into reality. The university continues to empower the next generation of problem solvers who will shape India’s future.
