Ludhiana man dies in mishap

Phagwara: Naresh Kumar of Ludhiana was killed on the spot while his friend Shankar sustained serious injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding vehicle near Rawalpindi on the Phagwara-Hoshiapur road on Tuesday night. The duo were on their way to Ludhiana from  Hoshiarpur. The police have registered a case and sent the  body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. OC

Man ends his life

Phagwara: Naresh Kumar, a resident of Satnampura locality, here reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his residence here on Tuesday evening. The deceased was under depression after the death of his wife, Veena Rani, the police said. The deceased is survived by three children. OC

Three injured in road mishap

Phagwara: Three Ludhiana-based residents sustained serious injuries when the car they were travelling in  overturned and rammed the road divider on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road in the wee hours on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Manoj Kumar, Rajinder Sheikh and Sunita Sheikh. They were returning from the Chintpurni shrine. The injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara. The accident occurred when the car driver fell asleep and lost control over the vehicle. OC

Christian body to support Cong

Phillaur: Punjab Christian Movement at a meeting held here on Tuesday extended support to Congress candidate Santokh Singh Chaudhary. Vikramjit said as the community had a significant presence in Jalandhar cantonment and the move would fetch electoral gain to the Congress. Movement chief Hamid Masih said: “The SAD-BJP alliance always treated the community as a vote bank.” OC
