Man gets seven-year RI in rape case

HOSHIARPUR: Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood sentenced a man to seven-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) on the charge of raping a girl.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood sentenced a man to seven-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) on the charge of raping a girl. A fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on him.

In case, he fails to pay the fine, he have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

The victim, a resident of Hajipur, had complained to the police that she went to the local market to buy a medicine on August 6. When she was returning home, the accused, Deepak, alias Deepu, a resident of Jugiyal road, Hajipur, forcibly took her to the bushes behind the post office chowk and raped her.

He escaped from the spot after committing the crime. The police had filed a case against the accused on the basis of the statement of the victim.
