The Commissionerate Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur, have taken decisive action against criminal elements in the city by arresting a person involved in threatening local shop owners with deadly weapons and extorting money from them in the Bhargo Camp area.

The arrest was made following registration of FIR No. 41, at the Bhargo Camp police station. The case was registered under Sections 308(2), 351(1,3), 191(3) and 190 of the BNS in this connection. The arrested accused has been identified as Ajaypal Singh, alias Nihang, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Basti Shekh. His accomplices were identified as Gora, a resident of Main Bazaar, Bhargo Camp, Gagan, alias Billa Kanchi, a resident of Champali Chowk, and Billa and Vansh, both residents of Budha Mal Ground, Jalandhar.

According to the FIR, the group had been intimidating shop owners in the Bhargo Camp area and using weapons to extort money from them. Acting on credible information, a police team from Bhargo Camp launched a swift operation and successfully apprehended one of the prime accused Ajaypal Singh.

The CP said the arrested accused was presented before court and brought on police remand for further questioning. The CP said, “The police are actively pursuing the remaining accused and are confident of their imminent arrest.”

Emphasising on the department’s commitment to maintaining law and order, the CP said the police were dedicated to eliminating criminal activities from the city and ensure safety of residents. She assured the public that the Commissionerate Police would continue their rigorous efforts to make Jalandhar more secure place.

“An investigation is going on. The authorities are hopeful of bringing all culprits to justice soon,” she added.
