Manya, Aakhri win gold in Khelo India Games

Two girls from the city have won medals at the 5th edition of Khelo India University Games-2025 that concluded in Rajasthan on Friday.

City-based shuttler Manya Ralhan, representing the Lovely Professional University (LPU) team has won the gold medal in the tournament held in Jaipur. With this achievement, she has become the first woman badminton player from Punjab to win a medal at the event, adding a historic moment for Punjab Badminton.

The Punjab Badminton Association posted on its FB page, "Heartiest congratulations to Manya for bringing glory to LPU and to Punjab. Your hard work, discipline and exceptional talent shall continue to inspire young shuttlers across the region."

Likewise, Aakhri, a student of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, has clinched a gold medal in fencing at the Khelo India University Games held in Kota, Rajasthan. Aakhri is the rising star for India as she has already participated in Cadets and Juniors Asian Fencing Championship 2025 at Kuwait and won appreciation certificate. Earlier she had also participated in Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship held at Bahrain. "Her present achievement showcases exceptional talent, dedication and true spirit of excellence", said Principal Prof Ekta Khosla, while extending her heartfelt felicitations. The Principal has also congratulated her coach Shamipreet Kaur and faculty members of the department Ramandeep Kaur and Pragati.
