A medical store owner was seriously injured after two masked motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at him late Tuesday night in Samundra town on the Garhshankar-Chandigarh road. The police have launched an investigation and formed special teams to trace the attackers.
Tarsem Lal, a resident of the village Samundra, runs Happy Medical Store in the town. Around 9:15 pm on Tuesday, when he was closing his shop, two masked youths riding a motorcycle suddenly opened fire at him. One of the bullets hit him on the right side of his abdomen.
After carrying out the attack, the assailants fled the spot. Raj Kumar Sharma, an employee at the store, rushed the injured Tarsem Lal to the Civil Hospital in Garhshankar. After providing first-aid, doctors referred him to a private hospital in Nawanshahr due to his serious condition. Doctors there have stated that he was out of danger and undergoing treatment.
DSP Daljit Singh Khakh said police teams reached the spot immediately. Separate teams have been constituted to trace the accused and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined. SP (D) and CIA in-charge Puneet Kumar also visited the spot late at night.
This is the sixth firing incident reported in Garhshankar for the past six months. Although the police claim to have arrested the accused involved in the previous five incidents, repeated firing cases indicate that criminal elements continue to operate fearlessly in the region.
