Minor girl killed in road mishap

A 14-year-old minor girl died on the spot when a speeding bike hit her near village Saprod on Phagwara-Jalandhar highway last night.

The deceased, identified as Gunjan, was crossing the road. She was taken to the Civil Hospital but was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Surinder Bhagat, father of the girl, told the police that he ran two dhabas on both sides of the highway and his daughter was coming to meet him when she was hit by a speeding bike bearing registration number PB-37K-1245. The motorcyclist, identified as Amir Arora, a Phillaur resident, managed to escape. The police have registered a case against the motorcyclist. The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family after the post-mortem conducted at the Civil Hospital, Phagwara. — OC
