Minor girl lodged at children’s home in Jalandhar complains of breathlessness, dies
Second girl inmate of ashram to die in the past over two months
A minor girl inmate of the Gandhi Vanita Ashram, Jalandhar, died here today. She is the second minor girl inmate of the ashram to die in the past little over two months. On November 21, 2025, a 17-year-old girl had died at the Gandhi Vanita Ashram’s Children’s Home after she was allegedly found collapsed in the bathroom. An autopsy of the body had later revealed 21 injuries.
The inmate who died this morning had also been residing at the children’s home of the ashram for the past one year. Brought to the ashram in January 2025, the girl was taken to the Civil Hospital today after her health deteriorated and she died soon after. Members of the administration said the body had been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal said, “The girl died a little before 9 am this morning as per information received so far. Aged about 17 years, she has had previous health issues. Today, she complained of breathlessness, after which she was taken to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar. There, she died during treatment. There is no reason to suspect any foul play in her death. More will be clear after theautopsy report comes.”
On being asked why an FIR hadn’t been registered in the previous death case either, the DC said, “The viscera report in the previous case is yet to arrive. It is only after that the probe can be completed. The FIR will also be registered soon.”
