A 17-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped being kidnapped from village Jhal Thikriwal in Kapurthala district on the intervening night of August 19 and 20. The matter came to light yesterday following which the police had arrested one of the accused.

The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, alias Sankita, and Kulbir Singh, alias Bunty. The accused are said to be residents of Jhal Thikriwal village in Kapurthala district. Kulbir was arrested by the police late at night while raids were being conducted at the suspected hideouts of the remaining accused.

The girl’s father Jasbir Singh said the two accused were brothers and had forcibly taken away his daughter on the intervening night of August 19 and 20. After taking her to an isolated place, they physically exploited her.

Sources said the accused Kulbir, who was arrested, also admitted before the police that he and his brother had kidnapped and raped the girl.
