MLA flags off safety van for testing of food in Hoshiarpur
Will function as a mobile laboratory and conduct on-the-spot testing of food items
Under the “Food Safety Awareness Fortnight” (April 9–24), MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa on Friday flagged off a food safety van at the Civil Surgeon’s office in Hoshiarpur today. The campaign is being held under the guidance of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab, and Civil Surgeon Dr Mandeep Kamal.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Jimpa said the campaign aims to ensure availability of safe and unadulterated food to the public as part of the government’s vision of “Healthy Punjab”. He said strict action would be taken against those involved in food adulteration.
The van, equipped with modern testing instruments, will function as a mobile laboratory and conduct on-the-spot testing of food items such as milk, ghee, paneer, edible oils and spices in different markets and localities. It will also provide instant reports and spread awareness about food safety among residents.
Jimpa said the van would help people identify adulterated food products and protect public health.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mandeep Kamal directed food vendors to ensure proper licensing and maintain hygiene standards, while warning against any violation of the food safety norms.
District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia said regular inspections would be carried out through the van. He urged residents to report suspicious food items. He also advised consumers to check labels and expiry dates before purchasing food products.
