MP Chabbewal seeks early re-awarding of four-lane project

Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal has sought the early re-awarding of the long-pending four-laning project for the Ghuman–Sri Hargobindpur–Tanda section of NH-503A. Dr Chabbewal raised the issue with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari during a meeting in New Delhi and sought his intervention for expediting the approval of the revised Detailed Project Report.

The project, covering 43.400 km to 85.788 km under Package-2, was earlier awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). However, the contract was terminated due to non-availability of possession of acquired land in Gurdaspur district, delaying the execution of the four-laning work.

Dr Chabbewal informed Gadkari that a revised DPR had now been prepared and submitted to the competent authority of the NHAI. He urged the minister to direct the authorities to accord the necessary approvals at the earliest, enabling fresh tenders to be floated and the project to be re-awarded.

He said the upgradation of the existing two-lane highway was important for improving connectivity between Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and adjoining areas. Gadkari assured the MP that he would personally look into the matter and take necessary steps to facilitate an early resolution and commencement of the project.
