Jalandhar, February 23
Ahead of the Lok Sabha poll, a video of Jalandhar Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh wherein he errs in quoting a Gurbani verse went viral.
The MP is seen addressing a gathering at a religious function organised at Nangal village here. As he congratulates devotees on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, he errs in quoting two verses from a religious script of Guru Ravidas.
Yesterday, various organisations started seeking an apology from the MP. Jeewan Singh, national vice- president, Sri Guru Ravidas Mahapeeth, had sought apology from the Dalit leader. Finally, the MP used social media to tender an apology.
The MP said: “There were 40 functions that I addressed on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti in the city. I recited lines from Gurbani everywhere. Somehow, I made a mistake at one of the events. It was clearly unintentional and I have apologised for the same.” — TNS
Sampla apologised recently
Last month, Hoshiarpur BJP MP Vijay Sampla too had apologised for having tea in a cup which had the picture of Guru Granth Sahib printed on it. After some Sikh organisations took up the matter, he went to a gurdwara in the city and apologised for the same.
