Paying tributes to martyr and freedom fighter Banta Singh Sanghwal, MP, Jalandhar, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, said an intersection at Pathankot bypass would be covered under the Smart City Mission.

He held a meeting with members of Disha Committee, which includes the people of the area and members of the panchayat of Sanghwal.

Dr GS Gill, president of the committee, thanked the MP for having the “chowk” under the project. He said the upkeep of the chowk would be a great tribute to the saga of sacrifices of “Ghadarites”.

It was in 1992 that the Pathankot bypass chowk was named after the martyr by former Chief Minister Beant Singh and the statue of Banta Singh Sanghawal was installed in 1994.

Sanghwal was a renowned, bold and fearless commander of the “Ghadar Movement”. He became a terror for the British government that announced a reward of 50 acres of land and Rs 2,000 on his head. He was hanged to death at the age of 25 years on August 12,1915.
