Punjab MP Balbir Singh Seechewal felicitated at Philippines gurdwara

Rajya Sabha Member and noted environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal visited the Philippines as part of a religious tour and attended a special smagam at Gurdwara Gurshabad Parkash in Urdaneta. During the event, he interacted with members of the Sikh sangat.

The congregation appreciated Sant Seechewal’s humanitarian services during the devastating floods in Punjab. Speaking on the occasion, Manjinder Singh said that during natural calamities, Sant Seechewal consistently reached affected areas, led relief operations, and ensured assistance reached thousands of families—setting a remarkable example of selfless service.

His efforts in the Rajya Sabha to secure due recognition for Punjabi as a mother tongue and to ensure its use during parliamentary proceedings were also highly praised. It was noted that raising the issue of Punjabi in Parliament as his very first matter was a significant step. Owing to his initiative, Punjabi—along with another regional languages—received recognition in both Houses of Parliament.

Addressing the gathering, Sant Seechewal encouraged Punjabis living abroad to stay connected with their roots, mother tongue, and religious heritage. He emphasised that Sewa, remembrance Simran and the Sanjhivalta are the true essence of Sikhism and urged everyone to contribute toward the welfare of humanity.

At the conclusion of the program, the Gurdwara management committee honoured Sant Seechewal with a commemorative token and a siropa. Head Granthi Baljit Singh, Sewadar Angrez Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Harjinder Singh, Raman Deep Singh and a large number of local sangat members were present on the occasion.
