Under the leadership of environmentalist and Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal, 2025 emerged as a year of notable achievements in environmental conservation, humanitarian service, and social responsibility, both in Punjab and internationally.
A major focus of his work remained the karseva of Buddha Darya, where sustained efforts by Sant Seechewal and volunteers led to visible improvements in water quality, the return of aquatic life, and the arrival of birds in several areas. These results reinforced public faith in river-cleaning initiatives, with Sant Seechewal emphasising the principle of "change, not criticism" and pledging to continue the mission until the river is fully restored.
He also played a proactive role during the August floods in the Mand region, providing relief and rehabilitation. His team distributed food, medicines, clean water, and temporary shelters, and continues to assist in restoring farmers' lands to cultivable conditions.
On the humanitarian front, Sant Seechewal facilitated the safe return of 27 Indian nationals stranded abroad, many of whom were victims of human trafficking in Arab countries. Additionally, he helped repatriate the mortal remains of 15 Indians, allowing grieving families to perform last rites in accordance with their traditions.
