In a proud and inspiring ceremony, the Old Is Gold Friends Group honoured national athlete Simran of Nawanshahr with a gold medal in recognition of her outstanding achievements in athletics.
The event was organised with the support of the Municipal Public Park Committee, Nawanshahr and Retired DSP Didar Singh. The ceremony was led by Kamaljit Singh from New Zealand, who presented the medal to Simran for her remarkable contributions to sports.
Simran, a national-level athlete, has participated seven times in National Athletics Championships and has won a bronze medal at the national level. She has also secured two gold medals in Inter-College Games representing RK Aryan College. This honour marks the 25th gold medal awarded by the group since 2015 in recognition of excellence in sports and education.
Providing details, senior player of Daily Morning Football Club Nawanshahr and Retired SDO Raghuvinder Pal Singh, along with Chairman Tarsem Lal, Deputy Group Education and Information Officer, stated that from 2015 to 2026, the group has honoured 25 students, teachers and players with Gold Medals, along with distributing two laptops and two bicycles to deserving individuals.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamaljit Singh expressed confidence that Simran, the proud daughter of Nawanshahr, is a shining star who, with a little support, will continue to bring glory to the town and the nation.
Raghuvinder Pal Singh further shared that despite belonging to a financially weak family and facing economic hardships, Simran has continued to pursue her athletic career with determination and dedication. The group decided to honour her to encourage her to work harder and achieve greater success at the national level.
