The Tehbazari Department, which has given as many as 250 units on rent under the Municipal Corporation is yet to recover Rs 3.70 crore as rent from defaulter units.
Of these 250 units, 210 are shops and rest are petrol pumps, workshops and milk bars.
Of the 250, nearly 80 units are defaulters which have not paid the rent to the department for the past 20 years.
The department, who had even sent notices to the defaulters two months ago, takes monthly rent from these units.
The department had also put up cases against 45 defaulter units which are pending in the court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
“We won some cases and had recovered rent from them but recovery of an exorbitant amount is still pending,” said officials.
If recovered, the amount will help in several development works of the city.
The officials said for the past 20 years, the wing was not able to recover the hefty amount.
Mandeep Singh, Superintendent of the Tehbazari Department, said this month, the it would take action and seal the defaulter shops, milk bars and petrol pumps.
