New Election Commissioner’s Doaba connect

JALANDHAR: It is not only new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Achal Kumar Jyoti who has a Jalandhar connection. His one of the team members Sunil Arora, who has taken over as Election Commissioner about five days ago, has also a Doaba link.

It is not only new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Achal Kumar Jyoti who has a Jalandhar connection. His one of the team members Sunil Arora, who has taken over as Election Commissioner about five days ago, has also a Doaba link.

Sharing about his Doaba connect, principal Deshvir Singh, who is his close acquaintance, said, “Arora’s father Naseeb Arora was an accounts officer in the Railways at Jalandhar while his mother Pushap Lata served at DAV College Hoshiarpur. Residing at a small house in Premgarh Colony in Hoshiarpir, Arora had his entire education from the city that included his matriculation in 1970 from Vidya Mandir and MA English from Government College in 1976.”

A retired Rajasthan cadre 1979-batch IAS officer, Arora, had also served as Assistant Professor at DAV College Jalandhar before he joined civil services. While one of the brothers of the new Election Commissioner is a foreign diplomat, the other is an IAS officer in Haryana.
