Visiting the proposed new site for the fire station presently located in the market near the Cooperative Bank here today, Punjab Minister for Local Government Dr Ravjot Singh said that the fire brigade is being shifted to an open space near the cowshed outside the city.

During a visit to the new site near Bhangi Chowk along with Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and other officials, Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh sought information about the proposed shifting and said that it should be done soon. He said that the Punjab government has released Rs 2.50 crore to the Municipal Corporation for the construction of a fire station at the new site.

The Local Bodies Minister, while looking at the proposed plan of the new fire station, said that along with the construction as per the requirements of the time, necessary arrangements should be made in every aspect. He said that in view of the difficulties faced in removing vehicles from the old station located in the market inside the city during emergencies, the Punjab government has approved the construction of a fire station at the new location and released the necessary funds.

The officials informed the minister that the tender process for construction at the new location is underway and it will be completed in the next few days and construction work will be started. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the fire brigade station, to be built in an area of more than 2 kanal, will have adequate arrangements for vehicles etc to avoid hassles during emergencies.
