Jalandhar, October 20

The owners of two buildings at Rama Mandi area today held a press conference and alleged that a building branch inspector, Assistant Town Planner (ATP) and a draftsman had demanded money from them while issuing No Objection Certificate.

They named the building inspector Neeraj Sharma who had named the MLA two days ago at the meeting saying that he was putting political pressure on him for sealing the buildings.

Notably, officials of various branches of the Municipal Corporation had boycotted the general house meeting after Councillor Mandeep Jassal had put allegation on a building inspector saying that he was corrupt and be suspended.

Questions asked to Sharma during the MC General House meeting did not go well with officials of various branches, which resulted in a dramatic move as the latter boycotted the meeting which had left councillors, the Mayor and others present shocked.

Mandeep Jassal, during the Zero Hour, had raised an issue that earlier an unauthorised building in his ward was constructed, but when the building was taken on rent, the inspector, Neeraj Sharma, sealed it, saying that it was an illegal building.

The owner Amandeep Parmar whose building was sealed alleged that these officials had demanded Rs 3 lakh from him and when he refused to pay the money they sealed the building.

The owners of the buildings said they would approach the Municipal Corporation Commissioner in this regard.
