Jalandhar, July 17
Coming as a major jolt for District Revenue Officer (DRO) Paramjit S Sahota, who had already been nominated for the post of PCS officer, he has been demoted by his department two ranks backwards.
In the orders issued by Financial Commissioner Revenue Vini Mahajan on Monday, the officer has been reverted to the rank of Naib Tehsildar since he failed to qualify the mandatory departmental examination. Sahota had reportedly even sought an year’s extension to clear his papers but he still could not, after which the adverse orders came against him.
Sahota had been promoted to the rank of tehsildar on April 8, 2013, as per the Punjab Tehsildar (Class-2) Services Rules, as per which he could be reverted to the rank of naib tehsildar without any prior notice if he failed to clear the departmental examination. From this post, he got promoted as DRO on February 3, 2011.
However, later, he could not clear the examination. On August 28 last year, he moved an application that he be allowed another year’s time to clear his papers. He was finally allowed to avail another chance this February after he gave an undertaking that he would be bound by rules and conditions in the event of not getting success.
The results of the examination came on April 11, which he failed again. Finally, he received orders on Monday to revert as naib tehsildar as per Rule 7 (2) (b) (i) of the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of Service) Rules.
The officials of the Revenue Department said he had already been nominated for the post of PCS officer about two years ago but he could not join owing to a stay on the orders by the High Court. — TNS
