JALANDHAR:Now, students studying in the affiliated colleges or campus of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University will no longer be required to seek evaluated answer sheets using the Right to Information Act (RTI).

Jalandhar, October 19

Now, students studying in the affiliated colleges or campus of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University will no longer be required to seek evaluated answer sheets using the Right to Information Act (RTI). Instead, they will be able to use the official portal for the same to avail the facility and the scanned copy of the sheet on their laptops or phones within 10 days of applying for the same.

The varsity today announced the new provision after holding its academic council meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma at the campus today. Director Academics Dr Balkar Singh said that facility shall be made available to each and every student, including those appearing in any special chance examination too. For any student, including where log in ID facility is not available, an examination form will have to be filled manually and shall have to be deposited with requisite fee through DD, in the name of Registrar, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University Jalandhar, payable at Jalandhar.

He said, “While the RTI provision was taking a longer time to apply and process, this will be a far easy process which will be also processed fast.” Vice Chancellor Prof Sharma said the decision will discourage the re-evaluation trends among students studying in various campuses and affiliated colleges. He said Mumbai University, CBSE, New Delhi and few institutions of other states are already providing this facility to the students, which is a less time taking exercise.

In another major agenda, the varsity allowed the students studying in non-AICTE courses to avail SC Post Matric Scholarship. Till now, the students of only engineering courses had been availing the benefit of the social welfare scheme as the colleges had been opposing its implementation to other courses owing to delay on the part of the government in reimbursing the fee amount but now the varsity has announced that students enrolled in all UGC-run courses could also avail the benefit.

During the deliberations of Academic Council, a major agenda related to direct student benefits was to start concept of Minor and Major Degree certificate. Under this concept one stream student, if interested to study in another stream subjects, can continue with their favourite other stream subjects. University will provide these students major degree in particular admitted stream and minor certification in second favourite stream. This concept will support students in employability. After getting two major and minor certificates students would be able to apply for two different field jobs.

An agenda related to rationalisation of internal/session marks was also deliberated. University officials shared their observations that some private colleges were awarding more than 90 per cent of internal marks to all the students and some good institutes were awarding internal marks between 60 per cent to 90 per cent. There is no mechanism for rationalisation or verification of the internal marks awarded by the affiliated colleges. The university constituted a committee to check facts and recommendations were discussed between all council members and received majority of endorsement. University will soon notify a new set of rules on it. — TNS
