Jalandhar, February 21

Congress leader Nimisha Mehta has expressed disappointment over the state government's failure to greet people by not issuing any advertisement in newspapers on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. Mehta said she would take up the issue with the Chief Minister.

She said: “The Hindu community in the state comprises 38 per cent of the total population and has played a major role in the Cong’s win in the 2017 Assembly elections”. Nimisha Mehta said: “The Mahashivratri is celebrated by Hindus with great fervour and today their sentiments have been ignored”.

She alleged that till date no government in Punjab had made efforts to celebrate Hindu festivals by holding state-level programmes for Krishan Janmashtmi, Ram Navmi, Durga Pooja or Mahashivratri. She said Captain Amarinder Singh had performed kar seva at Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, which was a proof of his sentiments for Hindu community. She further added that it was due to the laxity of the officials that no advertisement was published to greet people on Mahashivratri.
